The canoe/kayak tour of the island is a special and fun way to discover hidden coves, breathtaking backdrops and see Elba from different points of view.
Suitable for everyone, experts or not, it is also an excellent solution for escape the crowded beaches in August.
Easy to organize, given that almost all the equipped beaches on the island have canoes and kayaks available rental.
Here are 5 itineraries not to be missed:
1. CAVOLI BEACH-GROTTA AZURRA or CAVOLI BEACH-SECCHETO
Canoe/Kayak rental at the beach establishment Cabbages 2000.
Starting from Cavoli Beach, after a few paddles you find yourself in the middle of Cavoli bay: a real natural swimming pool! The water remains transparent for many meters from the shore and even at the end of the Gulf you can clearly see the sand on the seabed and the fish swimming.
Leaving the bay on the left, continuing along the coast you come across several small inlets (former coves now submerged by the sea) where it is possible to stop for a while snorkeling.
Continuing for about 15 minutes you arrive at the famous one Blue Cave. I really recommend a dive here because the quantity of fish present near the cave will leave you breathless!
If you are fit, from here you can continue to the Palombaia beach, characterized by black rock and crystal clear water.
Alternatively, you can return towards Cavoli, cross the bay and continue for about ten minutes until Dry. Here too the small bay offers turquoise waters worthy of the now famous colour Waterfall of Elba!
2. FETOVAIA-SECCHETO or FETOVAIA-POMONTE WRECK
Canoe/Kayak rental at one of the many beach establishments on the area Fetovaia beach.
Starting from the shore, walk along the promontory on the right and immediately begin to enjoy the incredible emerald shades that distinguish the waters of this fantastic bay.
Continuing up to the tip and turning right will put you in direction Pomonte. Along the way you will encounter several coves always little frequented and characterized by dark rock that contrasts with the turquoise water.
From here you can get to the Ogliera rock, in front of the Pomonte beach, where on the bottom lies Il Wreck. I really suggest a session of snorkeling there, you will be amazed!
Alternatively, exit the bay of Fetovaia and head towards the coast to the left, here you will find the 'boccioni' (rocks rounded by the sea) that characterize this stretch of coast.
The crystal clear waters will accompany you to the Seccheto beach (about 15 minutes after the bay of Fetovaia). Stop outside the gulf, before the rocks begin: the sandy bottom and the turquoise water give the idea of being in a natural swimming pool!
3. PROCCHIO – SPARTAIA – PAOLINA
Canoe/Kayak rental at one of the many beach establishments on the area Procchio beach.
Leaving the Gulf, skirting the rock on the left, in about 15 minutes you arrive at the small one Spartaia beach. A rock and sand cove characterized by emerald water and colorful houses overlooking the sea: a truly enchanting setting and I warn you... You won't be able not to dive in 🙂
Continuing along the promontory, in about ten minutes you reach the Paolina Rock. Famous point for it snorkeling, which I highly recommend.
4. BIODOLA-SCAGLIERI-FORNO-VITICCIO or BIODOLA-LAMAIA-PORTICCIOLO
Canoe/Kayak rental at one of the many bathing establishments on the beach.
Heading to the right, in a few paddles you reach the small Spiaggia di Scaglieri - adjacent to Biodola - and the tiny Forno: a small strip of sand surrounded by colorful houses and small restaurants overlooking the sea. A truly picturesque setting where the sea will amaze you, once again, with its thousand shades and ever-changing seabed.
If you are fit, from here you can continue to the Gulf of Viticcio, characterized by cliffs that plunge into the crystalline sea.
Instead, leaving the Gulf of Biodola on the left side, in about 10/15 minutes you will arrive at the small Cala della Lamaia and, shortly after, at the Porticciolo beach.
Both wild and always little frequented as they can only be reached on foot, through the health journey or, precisely, by sea. Shallow, rocky waters rich in fish make them perfect for snorkeling.
5. THE GRAVELS – PADULELLA – CAPO BIANCO
Canoe/Kayak rental at the bathing establishment on each of these three beaches.
Shared by very white pebbles and crystal clear water (which has nothing to envy of the Maldives or the Caribbean), these three beaches are part of the stretch of coast that goes from Portoferraio to Capo d'Enfola in which the so-called follow one another White Beaches.
If you start from the Ghiaie, head to the left and you will immediately encounter Cala dei Frati: a small paradise beach and almost always deserted, as it can only be reached by sea.
Continuing, in a few paddle strokes, you arrive at Padulella beach, characterized by multiple inlets that create caves and natural pools, perfect for exploring by canoe/kayak.
Continuing for about ten minutes you reach the very famous one Capo Bianco beach, characterized by the white rock promontory that falls sheer into the sea.
Happy paddling!
