Sand, stones and rocks: there is something for all tastes! There variety of beaches and colors is precisely the beauty of the island!
Another advantage of being on an island with limited dimensions is that if on one side the wind blows and the sea is rough, you will only need to travel a few kilometers and find peace in more sheltered areas 😉 For this purpose, it will certainly be useful for you to consult The App windfinder
Here is the definitive guide to the unmissable beaches on the Island of Elba
White Beaches
In the North West (near Portoferraio) a succession of beaches and coves characterized by small, very white pebbles, which make the water extremely transparent: they are the so-called white beaches of Elba. You can easily reach them from the town of Portoferraio, up to Sottobomba even on foot. They are considered among the most spectacular beaches on the island and excellent points for lo snorkeling.
Starting from Portoferraio, they meet:
- The Gravels
- Cala dei Frati
- Padulella
- White Chief
- Under bomb
- Source
- Samson.
Coast of the Sun
In the area south and south-west on the island there are some of the most beautiful golden sand beaches on the island, as well as two of the most famous: Damn And Fetovaia. Truly unmissable!
In Cavoli, the bathing establishment that I recommend is Cabbages 2000
Besides these, Marina di Campo it can be a good solution if you are looking for an easy to access and spacious beach. Recommended bathing establishments: The Capriccio And Pagliacce Beach
Another less famous beach but which I recommend considering is Dry, positioned between Cavoli and Fetovaia, enjoys perfect points for lo snorkeling.
West side
The stretch of coast from Fetovaia to Marciana is certainly that more authentic and wild of the Island. Away from large crowds, continuing from Fetovaia, you come across:
- The Tombs: from the provincial road a dirt path leads directly to the beach, little frequented and perfect for snorkelling
- Pomonte: the two main beaches of the country are the Shipwreck Beach (on the left) and the pebble and rocky beach (on the right). In addition to these, there are three other smaller pebble beaches to the right of the shipwreck beach: the first can be reached on foot from the latter, the second only by sea and the third from a steep but short dirt descent directly from the coastal road . In these three coves you can enjoy absolute peace and privacy even on the busiest days
- Ask: a succession of flat granite cliffs, very smooth and comfortable for lying out and sunbathing or diving into the crystal clear waters of the place. From here it is also possible to admire one of the sunsets most spectacular and exciting on the island
- Saint Andrew: small sandy beach immersed in a poetic and authentic setting. From here, following a pleasant path on the rocks, it is possible to reach the Cotoncello: a tiny and enchanting bay, so small and sheltered that it really seems to form a natural swimming pool
Northern side
On the northern side of the island, in the stretch between Portoferraio and Procchio, one of the largest and most famous sandy beaches on Elba: the Biodola. Immersed in a natural setting, it offers beautiful colors – especially in the morning – and a fantastic atmosphere sunset on the sea.
From the right side of the beach (looking at the sea) you reach the small one Scaglieri, suggestive and with excellent bars and restaurants directly on the beach.
Procchio it offers an equally long beach of fine, golden sand, which can be reached directly from the town centre. Recommended bathing establishment: LaPerla Beach
Furthermore, you will find excellent restaurants on the beach and a spectacular one sunset on the Island of Capraia.
Spartaia it is a small sandy bay sheltered in the inlet between the large Procchio gulf and the Paolina rock. Recommended bathing establishment: Poseidonia
Along the road that leads from Procchio to Marciana Marina, there is thePaolina islet (or rock), named after Napoleon's sister (exiled to Elba). L'beach of the same name it is a small strip of sand and small dark stones immersed in a truly enchanting setting. The islet can be reached on foot by entering the water, from the left end of the beach or by swimming in a few strokes.
